kitesurf background

What is is a social travel website, created for kitesurfers only, on which people can easily find out when and where to go for a perfect kitesurfing holiday. See the About page for more information.

How should I use the explorer?

Our sophisticated explorer allows you to easily find out which kitesurfing destinations are right for you. After entering your preferences, the map below will show you where to go:

Click on a kite-symbol in order to open a pop-up window with some further information on the destination, then click "read more" to discover everything you need to know.

How do you define windy days?

A windy day is defined as a day in which the wind speed measured at least Force 4 (over 20 km/h or 13 mph) during at least one three-hour interval. Wind speeds below Force 4 are usually insufficient for kitesurfing. Keep in mind however that the minimum wind speed can be different for some people (depending mostly on weight, skill level, and the size of your kite and board).

Also note that the weather data have been collected from the nearest station of the main kitespot at each destination. As some weather stations are somewhat sheltered from the wind, the actual wind speeds at some kitespots may be higher. The data is sourced from World Weather Online, and based on observations between 01/01/2008 and 30/08/2011. If you aren't comfortable with this filter, you can simply leave it untouched. Instead you can rely on the ratings of all Need2Kite members whether the month you selected is good for kitesurfing.

Where can I order? is a travel comparison website, not a tour operator or an online travel agency. In other words, you can't order here, this website only provides relevant recommendations: where to go, how to get there, how to get around and where to stay. To order, simply follow a link to one of our reknown partners.

How can I add a kitesurf destination?

While you can instantly add a kitespot (a specific beach, river lake), new destinations on this website need to be approved by the Need2Kite team. Our reasoning behind this is that only the world's best regions for kitesurfing should be found be people when they make use of the explorer. You can make a suggestion here. We will then review the particular destination and inform you if the location will be added or not. Any suggestion is welcome!

What is the source of all the information on the website?

All kitespots and accommodations have been handpicked, either by our members or by the Need2Kite team. The destinations on the website were selected by the Need2Kite team, which invests lots of time to find the world's best locations for kitesurfing. This research is based on input from a network of experienced kitesurfers, kitesurfing schools and shops worldwide and based on suggestions and feedback from the users of our website, you. In addition, the selection is backed by accurate weather data by the reknown provider World Weather Online. The weather data includes both historic climate statistics and real-time 14-day forecasts.
