Kitesurfing in Aruba
We can start off emphasizing every cliché there is about this island, but you'll probably already know that Aruba is all about white sand beaches, turquoise waters, waving palm trees and laidback Caribbean lifestyle... Let's focus on why Aruba is such a great destination for kitesurfing. Which it most definitely is... It's most important blessing is the tropical climate with the year-round easterly trade wind, which are even accelerated by its hilly desert landscape. In addition, the abundance of shallow blue waters make kitesurfing here really enjoyable, especially for those still learning. Although there are plenty of kitespots found on the island, there are two hotspots for kitesurfing on the island: Fisherman’s Hut and Boca Grandi.
Kitespot Fisherman's Hut
Fisherman's Hut, located on the northwest coast, is probably the most famous, where all kitecentres on Aruba are based. This spot has butter-flat water conditions, mostly due to the predominantly easterly and offshore winds, which can be a bit gusty. Beginners will have no problem though in the beginning, where water is standing depth for several hundreds of metres. Further out, more experienced riders are found, who enjoy the stronger wind, the chop and the occasional wave hitting the safe reef. Note that kitesurfing at this spot is only allowed in the morning (before 10h) and the late afternoon (after 16h30).
Kitespot Boca Grandi
Boca Grandi, less well-known and a bit harder to reach, is the spot we recommended: a beautiful bay, protected by a reef on which 2m-high waves are found. Inside the bay the water is relatively flat, and side-onshore winds - more consistent than at Fisherman's Hut - are solid between 15-25 knots.
Fishermans Hut is full of Holes constant battle to find clean wind - have to head 200yds+ offshore to clean up the wind some. Boca Grandi is the saving grace - on-shore.. small choppy waves, but ususally nuking. ( we hit is on a odd weather pattern and had 6 days of unusual 10mph or less wind - but when it came back -- AWESOME )check out "mkelly8it" channel on utube for video of Aruba trip.
