Kitesurfing in Isla Margarita
Northern Venezuela is the place to go if you’re looking for a kitesurfing holiday, and in particular Isla Margarita, an island located just off the coast of Venezuela, is a dream come true. For surfers, Isla Margarita is synonymous to El Yaque: Originally a small fishing village, but transformed to a wind- and kitesurfers Mecca when ideal conditions were discovered there. Base yourself here and you'll have access to two of the best flat water kitesurf spots worldwide.
El Yaque Kite Beach
El Yaque Kite Beach, located upwind from the windsurf area, is a 400 metres wide strip of waist-deep water with mostly flat conditions to small chop. In other words, the perfect kitespot for beginners. Further away from shore there is more swell, where the more experienced kitesurfers usually are found. Due to its location, the capability for upwind riding is important, however boats are available to bring you back should you drift too far downwind. In short, a beautiful kitespot with a good mix of conditions and plenty of space for everyone.
El Coche
EL Coche is another dream having the most consistent wind conditions. Located on Isla Coche, 8km offshore of El Yaque, however easily accessible. Boats regularly sail between the two spots and remain in operation until sundown. Similar to El Yaque, the spot has perfect flat waters due to the wind blowing offshore which again means that upwind riding capabilities are important. No worries, rescue boats are in place here too.
Other kitespots on Isla Margarita
Besides these two spots, many more great places exist for kitesurfing on Isla Margarita. And for those with a whole lot of spare time, further world-class spots can be found along the Venezuelan coast including Adicora, Varadero, Los Rochas island, or Dique de Guataparo, the beautiful man-made lake at Valencia.
Good morning, it's incredible how far you are from the reality. Margarita is very dirty and El Yaque even worse. Furthermore, it is really not safe to live there, criminality but not only, most of the time you cannot believe even to the police, they usually push you to give them money. Maybe you need to review your comment, just to save your customer holidays. Giancarlo Cunto Ps: wind is often gusted too
Hey, great source of information for kiters, thanks! One observation though, I'm Venezuelan and I've never heard of Las Rochas Island, Did you mean LOS ROQUES Island??? Cheers, Luisa
