Kitesurfing in the Gulf of Aqaba
Although the Gulf of Aqaba features less places for kitesurfing than the Gulf of Suez or the Red Sea, it is a highly recommendable destination. It is closest to the original Bedouin experience and a paradise for beginning and intermediate kitesurfers.
Kitesurfing in Dahab
Dahab, originally a village with just a few nomad tents, has developed as a mecca for windsports. Most of the spots there are exclusive to windsurfers, but there are still great options for kitesurfing. A new official kitesurf spot has been opened in front of the Bay View Hotel, a great resort for kitesurfers to base themselves. The spot is ideal for beginners and intermediate kitesurfers, having shallow flat waters that can easily be accessed. There is also a small lagoon near the windsurfing spots, where kitesurfing lessons are given, but water here gets very shallow.
El Nabq
Further south, El Nabq offers a bay with standing-depth, flat waters. On the reef several hundred meters out, a few nice waves can also be found.
Kitespots in Sharm El Sheikh
Sharm El Sheikh itself also features some great spots. The city's main bay offers flat and shallow water conditions, suitable for beginners and more experienced kitesurfers practicing new tricks. Just north of the centre lies another bay with a decent shore break, which can be reached by car or by riding upwind by advanced kitesurfers.
In short, visit the Gulf of Aqaba for great kitesurfing conditions and be surprised by the beautiful, extreme landscapes.
