It is a very good spot only a few hours flight from London. Been there twice in July ; wind and sunshine all day every day...There was no cloud on the sky at all... Definitely not for beginners but, you will love if able to ride confidently. The flatwater side has offshore wind always and very busy ; many kiters and windsurfers ;so a bit difficult and very dangerous to practice. The water is cold in July, probably warms up a bit later.

Description

Kitesurfing in Prasonisi

Located at the southern tip of the Island of Rhodes in Greece, the town of Prasonisi is a holiday destination made for kite- and windsurfers. While there is little else to do, this town has everything a kitesurfer could wish for: the best water sports facilities, the most reliable wind statistics in the Mediterranean due to a Venturi effect (lifting wind speeds by 2 Bft compared to the rest of Rhodes), and a great mix of water conditions. Flat water and waves are found right next to each other on the same spot.

The kitespot

Prasonisi's kitesurfing area basically consists of a pensinsula with two bays on each side. Only a long and sandy beach separates the two kite- and windsurfing spots. For this reason, there will always be one bay with side-offshore wind resulting in flat water conditions, and the opposite bay with side-onshore wind and small waves of 1-2m high. Sailing on the offshore side can be done safely as rescue services are available. At high tide, you can ride from one side to the other via a canal. In short, kitesurfers of any level will have a great time on the water at this island.

Climate

The kitesurf season at Prasonisi runs between April and October when the NW trade winds (called Meltemi) prevail. Benefiting from the local topography, which funnels the wind through the hills of Prasonisi and island opposite of the town, wind speeds will usually be one or two forces stronger than on Rhodes itself. As a result, every month in summer usually has c. 25 kiteable days with wind speeds between 20 and 30 knots. Water temperatures are great in this period, allowing for kitesurfing in shorts and lycras.
